Board members and friends of the historic Durham Colored Library, Inc., invite you to join us as we celebrate the release of the first definitive biography about our founder, Dr. Aaron McDuffie Moore, published by the University of North Carolina Press. We've decided to offer a virtual event given the extended social distancing requirements. We'd so hoped by the end of May we would be able to be together face to face, We are focusing on the silver lining. This virtual event gives us an opportunity to reach a wider audience. .

Not only was Dr. Moore Durham's first African American Physician, he was also an extraordinary educational advocate, and entrepreneur. His close collaboration with other notable Black leaders like John Merrick and C.C. Spaulding imagined, sustained and built the foundation for Durham's Black Wall Street at the turn of the 20th Century. Moore's vision extended far beyond mere profit and his commitment to helping others was relentless. His example and achievements continue to inspire both historians and modern thinkers alike.

Our debut author, Blake Hill-Saya, is Dr. Moore's great-great granddaughter. Hill-Saya, who is also a critically acclaimed operatic soprano.
