This definitive biography is a testament to the life and work of Durham Colored Library's founder, Aaron McDuffie Moore. He was Durham’s first African American physician and a founder of Lincoln Hospital & School of Nursing (the first secular hospital to serve African-Americans in the state). He was a founder of the NC Mutual Life Insurance Company, the Mechanics and Farmers Bank, and many other important institutions that comprised Durham’s Black Wall Street.
All should have a signed copy for their personal library.
Blake Hill-Saya, the author, is Dr. Moore’s great-great-granddaughter. Ms. Hill-Saya is also a critically acclaimed operatic soprano and will be on hand to provide attendees with a uniquely creative and thoughtful presentation of the book. Through storytelling and artfully interwoven musical selections, the author will highlight episodes of Dr. Moore’s life, era & legacy, and her personal journey of identifying historical references and using them to follow his footsteps.
What an honor to have such a glowing review given for the biography, especially during Woman's History Month (2023) this year. We celebrate Blake's achievement!
